A 20-minute fireworks show launched from a barge 3,000 feet offshore, five live acts, and more than 150 food and craft vendors
will fill the Ruston Way Waterfront on July 4.
Tacoma's Summer Blast celebration runs noon to 10 p.m. at Dune Peninsula and Cummings Park, according to Parks Tacoma, which hosts the event in partnership with the City of Tacoma. The fireworks, presented by Tacoma Venues & Events, launch around 10 p.m. after dark and are visible from Dune Peninsula Park in the north to Jack Hyde Park in the south.
Live music kicks off at 1:30 p.m. with DJ Mike Illvester at Dune Peninsula, followed by Wesley Garman (3–4 p.m.), Emily McVicker (4:30–5:30 p.m.), Bonita Fishwife (6–7 p.m.), and Annie J (7:30–8:30 p.m. and 9–10 p.m.). Two beer gardens, both 21-plus, operate noon to 10 p.m. A Kids Zone at Cummings Park features bounce houses, sports, crafts, and a toddler area.
An ADA viewing area is set up at the horseshoe pier at Cummings Park.
Ruston Way closes to all traffic between Alder Street and N. 49th Street from 7 a.m. to midnight on July 4, according to a Parks Tacoma traffic advisory published June 22. Yacht Club Road and N. Baltimore Street also close.
Paid parking runs $25 per vehicle at the Multipurpose Lot near Point Defiance Park. Free parking is available at Point Defiance near the boat launch and along Ruston Way south of Alder Street, first-come, first-served. The Point Ruston parking garage is free but expect up to two-hour exit delays after the fireworks.
Pierce Transit routes 10 and 11 serve Point Defiance Park, but holiday hours apply. The last bus leaves Point Defiance Ferry Terminal at 6:28 p.m. on July 4, well before the fireworks.
