Tacoma soccer players and fans now have a dedicated gear shop on the south side of town.

Tursi Soccer, a Portland-based specialty retailer in business since 1986, soft-opened its first Washington state location on Wednesday, July 8 in the shopping center at South 38th and South Cedar streets.

The store is owned by Trevor Frank, a University Place resident.

In a May email to the Tacoma News Tribune, Frank called Tacoma "an underserved market with a huge amount of soccer players and fans."

The Tacoma location also makes custom team jerseys and offers uniform packages with streamlined ordering for local clubs, coaches and organizations.

The chain's footprint

Tursi Soccer was founded as Portland's original soccer specialty store.

The company now has six locations: three in the greater Portland area, one in Eugene, Oregon, one in Boise, Idaho, and the new Tacoma shop.

It already outfits clubs in Oregon, Montana, New Mexico, Wyoming, Washington, Idaho and Alaska, as well as high schools and colleges, according to its website.

World Cup timing

The opening lands during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is hosting matches in Seattle, roughly 30 miles north of Tacoma. The chain is now in its 40th year, according to the News Tribune's reporting.

What's next

A tenant-improvement application for interior alterations at the Cedar Street space was filed with the City of Tacoma at the end of April. The store's Instagram account, @tursisoccerwa, lists the location as open. No formal grand opening date has been announced.
