Parks Tacoma's summer event series starts June 26, with a free game night at People's Center in South Tacoma.

It's the first of more than 40 free events spanning neighborhoods from Point Defiance to Wright Park to Franklin Park, all listed on the Parks Tacoma summer 2026 guide published June 15. Some recurring programs, including free youth meals and Summer Late Nights, are already running as of June 22.

The event runs 4:30 to 7 p.m. and requires no registration.

The big ones

The Fourth of July Summer Blast takes over Dune Peninsula and Cummings Park on Saturday, July 4, from noon to 10:30 p.m. Live music, food vendors, craft booths, and fireworks over Puget Sound at dark.

National Night Out returns to People's Center on Tuesday, August 4, from 3 p.m. to dusk, with live music, dance performances, bouncy houses, and basketball.

The Tacoma Concert Band plays four consecutive nights starting Wednesday, August 5, at Wright Park, then Point Defiance Park, STAR Center, and Wapato Park. All shows start at 6:30 p.m.

A Summer Bash and outdoor screening of Zootopia 2 (rated PG) closes out the big events on Friday, August 21, at 6:30 p.m. at STAR Center. Parks Tacoma suggests bringing blankets and lawn chairs.

Weekly and recurring programs

The Free Summer Meal Program serves youth 18 and under at 14 sites across the city, Monday through Friday, June 22 through August 28. Lunch is served 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., with free activities starting at 10 a.m. Meals must be eaten on site. No service Friday, July 3.

Summer Late Nights gives middle and high school students a free drop-in option Monday through Friday, 5 to 10 p.m., June 22 through August 28, with dinner, open gym, art, and music.

Spraygrounds at nine parks are open daily through Labor Day weekend (hours vary by location; most run 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.), then weekends only through October 1.

Park Guide Jenn leads Tots on the Trail every Friday at 10 a.m. at Point Defiance Park. Babies on the Trail runs Wednesdays at 10 a.m. at the same park. Saturday drop-in hikes depart the Fort Nisqually Picnic Shelter at 9 a.m.

Beach walks and nature programs

Tiptoe Through the Tidepools brings naturalists to Titlow Beach on Monday, July 13, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Explore the Shore hits Owen Beach on Tuesday, July 14, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and again Wednesday, August 12, 10 a.m. to noon.

Fish Tales, a nautical storytime for toddlers, meets at Point Defiance Marina at 11 a.m. on July 9, August 13, and September 10.

Resource fairs and play days

Community Market Resource Fairs connect residents with food, housing, and healthcare resources on Thursday, July 9, at Verlo Playfield and Thursday, July 30, at Stewart Heights Park, both 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Park Spotlight play days rotate through Oakland Madrona, Verlo Playfield, Wright Park, and Franklin Park in July and August.

A note for Point Defiance visitors: Vehicle and pedestrian detours are in effect due to ongoing construction. Parks Tacoma advises checking parkstacoma.gov for updated directions before heading out.
