Tacoma families with elementary-age kids can pick up free backpacks, groceries and food from multiple food trucks on Saturday, Aug. 22, at Pacific Christian Center, 3211 112th St. E.
The Jesus N The Parking Lot Back to School Backpack Giveaway starts at 11 a.m. and is open to families with children in kindergarten through fifth grade. Event listings show it running until 2 p.m.
Beyond backpacks, the event includes grocery bags for families, a jump house for kids and volunteer testimonies.
Mitchell organizes the event through Pacific Christian Center, which hosts Sunday services at the same 112th Street East location. The church's Facebook page confirms it as the host venue.
More back-to-school events this month
The Aug. 22 giveaway falls between two other free supply events on Tacoma's back-to-school calendar. As we reported Aug. 6, several other free supply events are happening across the city this month.
According to Tacoma Public Schools, upcoming giveaways include:
- Communities in Schools Stuff the Bus Block Party: Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2:30–5 p.m. at Blix Elementary, 1302 E. 38th St.
- Tacoma Police Kids Health & Safety Fair: Saturday, Aug. 29, 10 a.m.–1 p.m. at the Tacoma Dome, 2727 E. D St.
