Daily Threads, a boutique and consignment shop at 4927 N. Pearl St. in Ruston, opened Tuesday, Sept. 1, with 18 rentable closets where individual sellers stock their own merchandise.

Owner Shannon Stewart, a Ruston resident, said the rotating-closet model exists elsewhere in the country but that she hadn't seen anything like it in Tacoma. The News Tribune first reported on the opening.

"I think Tacoma needs something like this," Stewart said.

The concept works like this: individual sellers rent a dedicated closet inside the shop, fill it with their own items and let Daily Threads handle the sales floor. Each closet holds 50 to 100 pieces.

Sellers can bring women's, men's or kids' clothing, plus handbags and accessories. Stewart said she hopes to rotate sellers weekly so the inventory stays fresh.

"It would be like walking into a new store every week," Stewart said.

The boutique side of the store carries women's and men's clothing and accessories, including vintage pieces and designer items such as formal dresses. Prices range from about $20 to $3,000, according to Stewart. Handmade artisan goods, including candles and pottery, round out the selection.

Stewart started selling jewelry more than a decade ago and moved into online clothing sales more recently. She said she jumped at the chance to open a brick-and-mortar shop when the Pearl Street space became available.

The shop isn't just retail. Stewart hosted a pop-up consignment show during the first week of September and plans another pop-up in October. She also said she wants to organize themed events focused on categories like winter gear or plus-size clothing.

Daily Threads is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday; and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. The shop is closed Monday and Tuesday.
