The Tacoma Concert Band plays its final two free outdoor concerts on Friday, Aug. 7, and Saturday, Aug. 8, giving families in South Tacoma one last chance to catch live music in the parks before the summer series ends.
Friday's show brings the more-than-60-member ensemble to STAR Center, 3873 S. 66th St. Saturday, the series closes at Wapato Park, 6500 S. Sheridan Ave. Both shows start at 6:30 p.m.
Admission is free.
The four-night series opened Wednesday, Aug. 5, at Wright Park and moved to Point Defiance Park on Thursday, Aug. 6. Each night lands in a different neighborhood, spreading the music across the Stadium District, the North End and South Tacoma so residents across the city have a nearby option.
Seating is on the lawn. The band encourages attendees to bring blankets or lawn chairs, snacks and drinks. Food is also available for purchase on-site.
Conductor and artistic director Gerard Morris, a University of Puget Sound music professor who has led the ensemble since 2018, directs the band through a repertoire of classic and contemporary pieces. Now in its 45th season, the Tacoma Concert Band is a nonprofit with an international touring history that includes performances in Ireland, Vienna, Budapest, Madrid and the French Riviera.

Saturday's concert at Wapato Park is the final performance of the outdoor series. The band's indoor season begins in the fall.
