Steven J. Krupa is running for Tacoma Municipal Court Position 3 in the Nov. 3, 2026, general election. The official Pierce County sample ballot lists no opponent in the nonpartisan race.
Tacoma's court biography says Krupa was elected in November 2022. Before taking the bench, he worked at the Northwest Justice Project providing civil legal aid to veterans. Earlier, he practiced federal, state and military criminal, civil and administrative law at a Tacoma firm.
The city says Krupa served for 24 years as an Army Reserve judge advocate and retired as a lieutenant colonel. His education includes Rutgers University, the University of Puget Sound School of Law, the Army Judge Advocate General's Legal Center and School, and the Army's Command and General Staff School.
The city biography describes volunteer legal representation, professional education and service as a judge in YMCA mock trials. It also lists the Army's Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal and the Tacoma-Pierce County Bar Association's Humanitarian Award.
In his candidate statement in the county voters' pamphlet, Krupa says his priorities include pretrial and post-trial supervision and greater automation of court systems. He credits therapeutic court programs with improving outcomes; those are the candidate's claims.
