Tacoma Poet Laureate Mari Griffin, dance crews, live musicians, and a lineup of local entrepreneurs will take over the Tacoma Armory on Sunday, June 28, for ShowcACE, a free afternoon celebration of the city's creative economy.

The event runs noon to 5 p.m. at 1001 Yakima Ave. No tickets required. All ages welcome.

Tacoma Arts Live and the Accelerating Creative Enterprise program are co-hosting the festival, which fills both the main Armory stage and the Eleanor Roosevelt Room with performances, hands-on workshops, and vendor booths.

The main stage lineup includes Fearless Dance Team, Vision Step Team, Electric Diva Studios, Hard Softee, Capoeira Angola Filhos de Palmares, Barefoot Collective, and Jaminah Shannon. Food comes from Trini Plate and Jan Parker Cookery.

The showcase comes as the Armory's future remains uncertain. Tacoma Arts Live announced in January that it would close, citing years of financial strain. Shelly Crocker, the appointed receiver for the organization, said in a statement reported by South Sound Mag that a plan is in the works to preserve the building's role on the Hilltop/downtown border.

"While the future of the Armory is still not settled, we are open," Crocker said. "We are working on a plan that will nourish the role of the Armory as a community arts, education, and creative economy hub sitting on the border between the Hilltop and downtown Tacoma for years to come."

ACE founder and chief engagement officer Antonio Gómez said the program has spent three and a half years working to make the Armory a hub for arts, culture, and community. But the program's current funding is ending. In an Instagram post, ACE called ShowcACE "a culmination of the ACE program as it has existed," adding that "the end of our current funding means the ACE program must change."
