The Spanish-inspired restaurant Miró Tapas has permanently closed at 1502 Pacific Ave. in downtown Tacoma, ending an approximately nine-month run in one of the city's most prominent dining spaces.

Owner Robert Stocker confirmed the closure Tuesday, Aug. 4, in a message to the Tacoma News Tribune but declined to explain why, saying he would "rather not air my reasons on social media."

The shuttering marks the third tenant to fail at the ground-floor corner unit connected to the Courtyard by Marriott Downtown Tacoma since the pandemic.

The address is best known as the longtime home of Pacific Grill, which chef Gordon Naccarato never reopened after closing during COVID-19. Stanford's Steak, a Bellevue-based casual chain, took over in late 2021 but closed without fanfare in January 2024.

Stocker, who also owns Shake Shake Shake in the Stadium District and The Boom Boom Room on Sixth Avenue, opened Miró Tapas in October 2025. Bellingham-based Hollander Hospitality, which owns the building, chose him over what manager David Vis described in an October 2025 email to the News Tribune as "numerous other suitors," citing Stocker's reputation as a local restaurateur with an artistic eye for food and drink.

The concept drew on a Barcelona restaurant Stocker visited a decade ago, he told South Sound Magazine earlier this year. Tapas were originally served from roving carts. But customer reviews cited long waits under the cart system and staff who appeared frazzled despite sparse dining rooms, the News Tribune reported.

Miró Tapas eventually dropped the carts and switched to standard menu ordering. Several reviewers reported arriving for reservations only to find the restaurant hadn't opened yet.

On a spring 2026 visit by the News Tribune's TNT Diner column, the dining room was empty and just a few tables were occupied in the lounge. The bartender shouted across the bar to take orders while making drinks.

The restaurant's Instagram page has been removed. Its last Facebook post went up April 30, and the last Google review appeared in early July.

Hollander Hospitality manager David Vis had not responded to the News Tribune's request for comment on the space's future as of Monday, Aug. 3. No replacement tenant has been announced.

The closure adds to a difficult stretch for Tacoma businesses. Beer Star Tacoma on Sixth Avenue closed July 24 after nearly eight years. The Axe Academy in Opera Alley closed July 31 after three years. Charlie's Safari in South Tacoma also closed in July after roughly nine months.

The 1502 Pacific Ave. space now sits vacant with no public timeline for what comes next.
