More than 100 vendors, food trucks, a classic car show and live entertainment will fill Martin Luther King Jr. Way and People's Park on Saturday, Aug. 29, when the 11th annual Hilltop Street Fair runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free.

Organizers call it Tacoma's largest street fair. The ninth annual edition in 2024 was expected to draw an estimated 15,000 to 20,000 people, according to The News Tribune.

This year carries extra weight for the person behind it. Hilltop Business Association President David F. Combs told Tacoma Weekly that 2026 will be his final year leading both the fair and the HBA. Drena Sellers is serving as vendor manager for the event.

No successor has been named.

The food lineup alone spans more than a dozen operations: Buddy's Chicken & Waffles, Dipps Smokehouse, Gigos Jamaican Cuisine, Stacks Burgers, The Man BBQ, The Original Phillys, Trini Plate, Tee's Lemonade, Civic Roasters Coffee, Dawgeatdogs, QuickSnacks and more, plus ice cream, kettle corn and cookies.

Among the artisan vendors, Tacoma artist Dani Ursula Bonner will bring DUB's Doodles, her surrealist artwork turned into paintings, stickers, comics, pins and art dolls. Magpie Mouse Studios, run by artist Sarah Meranda, sells handmade enamel jewelry; Meranda was previously selected as a Pike Place Market vendor through its guest-vendor program. Root & Ritual, a woman-owned University Place business, will have its small-batch handcrafted soaps.

Kids can paint a ceramic piece for free at the Klayducks Ceramics Association of Washington booth, with donations accepted. Swan Creek Art Academy, which runs digital art and electronic music programs for young people, will also be on-site.

Community organizations are showing up in force. Mi Centro, the Hilltop-based nonprofit serving Latino and Indigenous families, will have a large presence. The League of Women Voters of Tacoma-Pierce County plans a voter-registration table. Radio Tacoma will invite fairgoers to record station IDs and learn how to produce a show. The Tacoma Tool Library, which lends nearly 4,000 tools from its home on the second floor of Tacoma Public Library's Main Branch, will have a booth too.

Public agencies including the City of Tacoma Office of Management & Budget, Tacoma Police Department, Tacoma Power, Pierce Transit and Sound Transit round out the vendor list, alongside Tacoma Community College and Clover Park Technical College.
