Downtown Tacoma has a new spot to freeze, sweat and breathe.

Plunge + Restore, a wellness studio at 1101 Fawcett Ave., Suite 111, opened during the first weekend of August with two cold plunge baths, two infrared saunas, sound bath meditation sessions and restorative yoga classes.

Drop-in sessions cost $28, with memberships also available.

Owner Toni Fuqua, a certified cold water therapy practitioner and mindfulness meditation teacher, had been leading sound bath meditations and silent retreats around the area before launching the brick-and-mortar studio. On the business's website, she describes her vision simply: "Plunge + Restore was created with love and my hope is when you walk through those doors, you feel it all."

The space sits at the corner of Fawcett Avenue and South 11th Street and features historic columns, views overlooking downtown, a wave mural at the entrance representing the contrast between cold and heat therapy, and a Zen Den where guests can unwind with complimentary tea. Robes and towels are provided.

The Downtown Tacoma Partnership welcomed the studio on Instagram on Monday, Aug. 3, drawing 488 likes.

Early visitors have already weighed in. Tacoma resident Rachel Heller posted on Instagram after her first session on Saturday, Aug. 1:

@racheljheller: "I had my very first session today and it exceeded all my expectations. Hard to explain but I feel amazing afterwards. Please come and treat yourself to a healing plunge."

Plunge + Restore also hosts recurring "Full Moon Experiences" (also called Luna Tides), evening events tied to the lunar calendar. Specific dates for upcoming sessions were not listed at press time.

The studio welcomes people of all body types, genders, sexual orientations and experience levels.

Hours: Monday, Tuesday and Friday, 7 a.m.–4 p.m.; Wednesday, noon–8:30 p.m.; Saturday, 8:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.; Sunday, 11 a.m.–7:30 p.m. Closed Thursday.
