Lap swimmers at two Tacoma pools will get earlier access to the water in November.

Metro Parks Tacoma announced that Eastside Pool and People's Pool will begin opening at 7 a.m. on weekday mornings, according to a schedule update posted by the agency. The change extends morning lap swim hours at both community centers.

The rollout happens in two phases.

During the week of Nov. 2, Eastside Pool will open at 7 a.m. Monday through Thursday. That covers all four weekday mornings because People's Center will be closed for its annual maintenance from Nov. 2 through Nov. 6. All areas of People's Center, including programs and classes, will be shut down during that week.

Starting Nov. 9, the two pools split the early openings. Eastside Pool opens at 7 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. People's Pool opens at 7 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Pools will be staffed for lap swimming as soon as the buildings open.

Here are the full community center hours beginning Nov. 9:

Eastside Community Center

  • Monday and Wednesday: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Saturday: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Sunday: Closed

People's Center

  • Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Tuesday and Thursday: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Saturday: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Sunday: Closed

Staff will post schedule updates on-site and on each center's website and Facebook page. Residents with questions can contact Toni Babbs, assistant center supervisor at Eastside Community Center, or Christy West, assistant center supervisor at People's Center, through the front desk or by email.

People's Center is the last of four Metro Parks community centers to close for maintenance in 2026. Eastside closed in April, STAR Center in June and Center at Norpoint in September. Each closure lasts five days, except Norpoint's seven-day shutdown.
