Nick Raposo pulled a three-run homer over the left field wall in the sixth inning Tuesday, Aug. 11, capping a gritty rally from four runs down as the Tacoma Rainiers beat the Reno Aces 8-7 in the series opener at Cheney Stadium.

The afternoon contest, selected as MiLB's national Game of the Day with a 12:05 p.m. first pitch, improved Tacoma to 17-23 in the second half and 50-65 overall.

Reno built a 4-0 lead through three innings. Jose Fernandez doubled and scored on a LuJames Groover single in the first. Gavin Conticello launched a two-run shot over the right field wall in the second. Adrian Del Castillo added a solo blast off the video board in right-center in the third.

Tacoma didn't record a hit until the fourth inning.

Then the lineup erupted.

Brock Rodden pulled a double into left with one out, and Mariners infielder Patrick Wisdom crushed a 431-foot double off the batter's eye in center field to drive Rodden home. Back-to-back walks loaded the bases before Stuart Fairchild singled in two runs. Miles Mastrobuoni laced a double down the right field line to plate two more, giving Tacoma a 5-4 lead after batting around.

Wisdom's 431-foot shot is the longest non-home run hit at Cheney Stadium this season, according to the team's official recap. The last longer one: Ryan Bliss's 433-foot double against Round Rock on Sept. 17, 2024.

Raposo's sixth-inning blast, his second homer with Tacoma, pushed the lead to 8-4. It was his first home run since May 16, 2025, with Double-A Arkansas.

Reno chipped away. Fernandez hit a solo shot in the seventh. Demetrio Crisantes went deep in the eighth. In the ninth, Reno put the tying run in scoring position before RHP Troy Taylor entered needing two outs. Manuel Pena's sacrifice fly cut the deficit to 8-7, but Taylor got Crisantes to ground out to end it and earn the save.

The Rainiers' bullpen duo of Houston Roth and Gunner Mayer struck out eight batters in the first three innings, the most through three frames by Tacoma this season and the third-most since 2005.

Game 2 is Wednesday at Cheney Stadium. RHP Nick Hull starts for Tacoma with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m.
