PawDoc Urgent Care filed a permit to open a veterinary clinic at 5225 Tacoma Mall Blvd. in the Evergreen Plaza shopping center, targeting a January 2027 opening.

Representatives for the company submitted the permit Monday, Sept. 21, to convert a vacant retail space into the clinic, The News Tribune first reported. The space was formerly home to Pacific Golf & Turf, which relocated to Federal Way.

PawDoc is part of Lakefield Veterinary Group, a family-owned veterinary hospital-acquisition company based in Kent.

Lakefield operates a PawDoc urgent-care facility in Port Orchard, which opened in May 2025, and a surgery and dental center in Katy, Texas, which opened in October 2025. The Tacoma location would be the group's third clinic.

An Aug. 7 job listing described the planned Tacoma facility as a combined urgent-care, surgery and dental center that would connect general practice with urgent care for pets. The posting sought a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) with availability for evening and weekend shifts.

The evening and weekend schedule distinguishes the planned clinic from a standard daytime veterinary practice. The job listing is the only public document so far to describe the Tacoma facility's scope of services; the permit filing itself was submitted under the name PawDoc Urgent Care, without specifying surgery or dental work.

No square footage, lease terms, or construction costs appeared in the permit filing or the job listing. Whether the city has approved the permit or is still reviewing it was not confirmed in available records. The News Tribune reported no further details were immediately available from PawDoc representatives.

PawDoc's website does not yet list the Tacoma location among its active clinics.

Evergreen Plaza sits along one of South Tacoma's busiest commercial corridors, near the Tacoma Mall. The next documented milestone is the January 2027 target opening.
